Elder Dayley called and talked to us from Miami. From there they were flying to Sau Paulo Brazil over night. Then to Paraguay this morning.
He sounded so good. Even better than in the morning.
He said he weighed his luggage at the MTC and they were both about 51lbs. He had plans for a couple of things he could take out and carry if they didn't allow any overage.
At the airport, one bag weighed 50lbs. and the other was 52lbs. he said "I must have moved something not realizing". But the lady checking him in said it would not be a problem.
He did admit he was carrying his Bible and Book of Mormon in his pocket of his heavy winter coat, and his carry on bag as well as his personal bag were both buldging! He was hoping his first area wasn't going to be on a donkey trip to the Chaco!
He mentioned a funny conversation that happened the other day with his companion... he asked Elder Dayley what is that on your knee? He checked it out and said I don't know, but you have it too!
After further inspection they realized they both had built up calluses on both knees and the tops of their shoes on the toes are beginning to wear out. From Praying! (may we all build up calluses on our knees and wear out the tops of our shoes!!!!).
One more comment that stands out to me that was kind of amusing... I asked him if there were any sister missionaries traveling with them? He said "No we either got lucky, or jipped... I'm not sure which?".
He later mentioned the sisters in the MTC have the strongest testimonies and they are so awesome because they have chosen to serve missions. The young men have a priesthood responsibility to serve, but the sisters, they chose this out of pure love for the Lord. He was very impressed with how many have chosen that for their lives.
We love all of these Elders and Sisters and are so grateful for their willingness to serve God and share the good news of His gospel all over the world. If you see a missionary talk to them and take a minute to listen to them... they are away from home, and have families who are praying for them and love them very much, but most importantly, they have a really good message to share!!
Love the Missionary Mom
