The third and final pair of missionary shoes came in. The salesman said they are becoming so popular with missionaries, the are hard to find now. The supply is not keeping up with the demand.
I hope they last, I hope I don't have to mail him more shoes... it will be a very expensive package and very stressful 2 months waiting to find out if they arrive (or not)... it's just not an option, he has to have shoes to last him two years. I hope we make the right choices.
As we have read and been learning about his mission in Asuncion, we found a blog for a missionary serving in the same area who had wore his completely out! I guess 15 miles a day and a rainy season that makes Seattle look like the Mojave could take it's toll on the feet.
At first these worried me, but I have had memories of when I first moved out come to me over and over while reading the scriptures (2 Nephi 2: 2) and I never thought of any of those times as "hard" or challenging, it was just a new life on my own, I was getting to make my own decisions. I know our missionary is way more prepared for "life" than I ever could have been. So I these things don't worry me anymore.
And with an twinge of worry I have had come over me, I just go to the stock of supplies he has purchased... foot powder/check, foot cream/check, anti fungal cream/check, foot spray/check... assuming any of this will fit in his limited luggage, he is prepared. (yes, I actually go look through all the supplies and touch them and go over "the list" now and then... and I am sure I will touch them another hundred times before Sept 7th... it's just what I do).
And knowing him... the Eagle Scout who doesn't even take a tent camping anymore... it will remain in the luggage the entire two years (if it even fits in the first place). But still, for Mom... he got what was on his list, and my mind is at ease (for now).
